Four deaths were reported in Etawah, three in Mathura, two in Firozabad, and one each in Agra, Aligarh and Kanpur Rural, Principal Secretary Information Avanish Awasthi said.

At least 16 people were killed and 27 others injured as thunderstorm hit several parts of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday as Met department has issued another set of warnings of storm and rain that is expected to ravage eastern and central parts of state between May 12 and 15.

According to Sanjay Kumar, at least sixteen people were killed and over twenty-five got injured in the thunderstorm last night. The injured were rushed to Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Hospital.

One more person died at Hathras, the police said.

Incidentally, the previous thunderstorms had also occurred on a Wednesday.

Shakuntala Singh (55) was electrocuted when an electric pole fell on her in Maant tehsil in Mathura district. "More funds have been allocated to the worst affected districts for providing immediate relief to the families of victims", said he.

Although the Braj region was bracing for thunderstorms on Tuesday in keeping with weather predictions, Aligarh and Hathras districts witnessed high-velocity winds accompanied by heavy rain only the next evening. Strong winds also hit the state capital. Schools and colleges were closed in several districts, he said. Instructions were given to calculate the loss due to calamity last night, they said.

Agra - home to Taj Mahal - was the worst affected in the deadly dust storm that left almost 150 people dead across six Indian states in early May.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today issued directives to expedite the rescue and relief operations on a war footing.
