Wayne Rooney Agrees Move In Principle To DC United

While Rooney is yet to agree on a salary with the MLS club, Sky Sports News understand that this contract would keep the former Man United star in the USA until 2020, and also make him the highest paid player at DC.

Should Rooney leave, it will bring an end to a glittering career in English football, one that has seen him become the record goalscorer for Manchester United and England and saw him win five Premier League titles and the Champions League.

If he does make the swap, he will certainly need those magic feet to do the hard work; D.C. United are now sitting bottom of the MLS' Eastern Conference, having won just one game of seven this season.

The 32-year-old Rooney has scored 10 goals for Everton in the Premier League this season after leaving Manchester United at the end of last season, where he spent 13 years.

When asked whether he wanted Rooney to stay, Allardyce told talkSPORT: "Yes".

"There have been rumours about Wayne going overseas, [to] China or America, but we won't find out until Wayne and his agent have been contacted", said Allardyce recently.

"It would have to be massive for him to want leave Everton".

Rooney is Everton's top scorer with 11 goals this season.

However, Rooney's signing will also likely add to the often-repeated criticism of MLS as a whole as being a retirement league, a place for over-the-hill players to correct one final big paycheck.

"He can play in a few roles, he's a brilliant goalscorer, and I still think he's got a lot to give". His former club Manchester United are already believed to be contributing a staggering £10m a year to Rooney's current deal.
