The discount program is starting in Florida this week and will roll out nationwide this summer, the company said Tuesday night. And it already offered special coupons to Prime members to help them save more at times - like when it discounted Thanksgiving turkeys, for example.

Now it looks like those photos were right on the money as Amazon has since announced that Prime members will get some perks while shopping at Whole Foods.

Prime members can scan the free Whole Foods mobile app at checkout and get 10 percent off hundreds of weekly sale items and discounts on best-selling products in Florida stores, the company said in a news release.

To counter the growing threat from Whole Foods and German discounters Aldi and Lidl, Walmart has pledged to continue offering low prices to shoppers at its 5,000-plus US stores.

"That's significant", Whole Foods CEO John Mackey told Fortune.

To get the benefits, Prime members will need to download the Whole Foods app on their phone and input their Prime information.

Prime members now save more at Whole Foods Market.

Prime members will receive these discounts by scanning a Whole Foods app at checkout. Customers can also go to the Whole Foods Market app to learn about numerous best offers each week.

Sustainably sourced, wild-caught halibut steaks: $9.99/lb., save $10/lb. The analysts say that grocery discounts "can go a long way toward justifying Prime membership...even at $120 a year."
Amazon recently increased the cost of Prime by $20, but there are ways to keep the price at $99 for at least one more year".

Cold-brew coffee at Allegro coffee bars: 50 percent off 16 oz. That could be a lure for Prime members who already shop Whole Foods, but could push price-conscious shoppers further away from the chain, given its existing reputation for high prices.

"Whole Foods, with 463 USA stores and roughly 1% share of the fragmented US grocery market, has gained momentum since the Amazon merger last summer, Whole Foods co-founder and chief executive John Mackey told Reuters". "Our vision is that every day Prime makes your life better, easier and more fun, and shopping at Whole Foods Market with exclusive deals and savings is all of this and more".
