The president's fiery comments, in front of a large crowd Tuesday at the Municipal Auditorium in Nashville, were made to boost GOP Senate hopeful Marsha Blackburn.

President Trump is holding a rally Tuesday night in Nashville, as Republicans hope to keep a Tennessee Senate seat red.

He's looking to raise money and offer support for Blackburn, who's running to replace Republican Sen.

"I've never heard of this guy - who is he?"

"He's an absolute, total tool of Chuck Schumer and the MS-13 lover, Nancy Pelosi", Mr. Trump said, referring to the Democratic leaders of the Senate and House.

The Failing and Corrupt @nytimes estimated the crowd last night at "1000 people", when in fact it was many times that number - and the arena was rockin'.

Trump did touch briefly on other issues that Republicans want to be a focus of their midterm messaging such as the GOP's tax cuts and the economy, but it was immigration that was the overarching focus of his speech.

The wall was a favorite campaign theme of Trump's and has been a longstanding bone of contention with Mexico.

Trump also repeated his 2016 campaign pledge that Mexico will pay for the construction of a wall along the United States' southern border. "They don't want the wall, they want open borders. We have been very pleased with the response to that".

Blackburn thanked Trump for his endorsement and said that "he's had an incredible 18 months" in part because he has "repeal [ed] a record number of regulations".

Trump ripped former Gov. Phil Bredesen Jr.

Corker will greet President Trump at the airport when he arrives in Nashville, a spokeswoman for Corker confirmed.

Instead, Trump did try to tie "Phil Whatever-The-Hell-His-Name-Is", - who's tried to campaign on bipartisanship and pragmatism - to the national Democratic Party as a whole. Corker once said Trump had turned the White House into an "adult day care center" and the president tweeted that Corker "couldn't get elected dog catcher in Tennessee".

"Crooked Hillary", Trump added, as the crowd chanted "lock her up".
