England 2-1 Nigeria

England relied on goals from Gary Cahill and Harry Kane before slackening in the second half to beat Nigeria 2-1 in a World Cup warmup match on Saturday. Uzoho reacted nervously when John Stones glanced a header at his feet and Brian Idowu produced a courageous, last-ditch lunge to deny Ashley Young.

In defence Harry Maguire may be treated with kid gloves after sitting out training for two days this week due to a muscular issue, and Phil Jones has left the group to attend the birth of his second child.

Seven minutes into the game, Gary Cahill opened the scoring for the Three Lions with a towering header from the penalty spot that sailed into the top corner following a corner, 1-0.

It was a dream start for the Three Lions, who oozed astounding confidence throughout the first half, finding plenty of space to penetrate the Nigerians in all compartments.

Placed in the same group as Argentina, Iceland and Croatia, the Super Eagles will hope to head into the World Cup in good shape and high spirits so as to qualify from the tough group. "Nigeria are playing at 30-40%".

Meanwhile, England, who have won the mega event once (back in 1966), are scheduled to begin their campaign against when they begin their campaign against Tunisia on June 16.

"But it's a dream come true for myself to represent England, so it's a really proud moment".

Tottenham full-back Trippier tested Nigeria 'keeper Uzoho with a free-kick early on before whipping in a fine corner for Cahill to power in England's opener. Nigeria's problems against the crossed ball may not bode well for them.

The Tottenham quartet of Kane, Dele Alli, Eric Dier and Kieran Trippier make up the core of Southgate's England squad and the striker once again showed his goalscoring credentials with a cool finish in the first half.

Ighalo was replaced by Kelechi Iheneacho as the flurry of changes continued, with Fabian Delph then arriving for England in place of Alli.

The fans however gave Iheanacho a loud share as he came on for Ighalo. Hopefully, we will get one over them on Saturday. Alli was the provider on each occasion, once following a terrific ball from Kane, but Sterling missed the target twice. But after a great display in the FA Cup final against Manchester United, he earned a spot in Southgate's England squad.
