Last fall, Warner Bros. announced that a Joker origin story separate from the Suicide Squad depiction and the current DC cinematic universe was also in development. Other films on DC's upcoming slate include a Harley Quinn spinoff, Suicide Squad 2, Shazam!, Wonder Woman 2 and Aquaman, which is scheduled for release in November.

Jared Leto could reprise his Joker role from Suicide Squad with a standalone movie.

There is a so-called "R-rated girl gang" movie in the pipeline, Birds of Prey, centred around Robbie's Harley Quinn. It's also not clear what the movie would be about, but it should connect to "Suicide Squad" or the sequel in some way. One minute, Ben Affleck still wants to play the character in the DCEU, but reportedly won't be a part of The Batman, which he was initially going to write, direct, and star in.

The internet has not reacted positively to the news of Leto getting his own movie. But one thing is for certain: two Joker movies are now being lined up. Whether or not you enjoyed the movie, Warner Bros. and DC Comics still made a mountain of cash off the flick.

Jared Leto's Joker may return for his own standalone movie. And given how not everyone was able to stomach the little that they did see of Leto's Joker makes it even more confusing. Every time the actor is asked about the subject of the origin movie, he claims to not know anything about it, but has said numerous times that it sounds "very interesting". Plot details are under wraps, but the studio is looking to expand on the world created in Suicide Squad with new films tied into future installments of the property.
