Convicted auto thief arrested as suspect in murder of rapper XXXTentacion

The arrest of Dedrick D. Williams, 22, comes two days after Onfroy was tragically shot to death in Deerfield Beach, Florida.

The 20-year-old rapper was a controversial, but rising, figure.

XXXTentacion, whose real name is Jahseh Onfroy, was shot and killed in Deerfield Beach, Florida, on Monday when two armed suspects approached his vehicle as he was leaving RIVA Motorsports.

"Homicide detectives are seeking additional suspects", the Broward County Sheriff's Office said.

He faces first-degree murder charges.

In an interview this month with the Miami New Times, XXXTentacion described his upbringing, which included seeing his mother infrequently and being raised by friends, family and baby sitters. In Los Angeles on Tuesday night, a vigil attended by around 1,000 devolved into the crowd jumping on a news van and swarming passing cars, according to the Los Angeles Times, before being dispersed by police.

Williams, who also was charged with driving without a license and violating parole for an earlier crime, appeared in Broward County court Thursday afternoon.

XXXTentacion, whose legal name was Jahseh Onfroy, was shot dead in South Florida on Monday. He posted a picture of a tattoo he says he inked on the abdomen of rapper Kodak Black, reading "Road Runner".

Police said Dedrick Williams, (age?), of Pompano Beach, was arrested shortly before 7pm on Wednesday. The rapper was shot while in his sports auto. Williams allegedly pointed a gun at his girlfriend's head in the domestic battery case.

Onfroy's great-grandmother Corine Jones said she learned of her great-grandson's death when she got up to use the bathroom and turned on the television.

The sonogram was taken on April 23 when XXXTentacion's girlfriend was eight weeks along, meaning the due date is around mid-November. I just wanted to stay. The sheriff's Office said the incident appeared to be a robbery.

A number of celebrity musicians, including Kanye West, J. Cole and Diplo, expressed shock on social media following the rapper's death.
