The massive deal way will offer hundreds of thousands of discounts on a huge range of items online, with prime members getting extra deals across a 36 hour period. Starting July 3, a ton of Prime sales are hot and heavy at their actual Prime Day prices, so Prime members can get a head start and get some deals out of the way.

In addition, there will be new product category sections to browse and deals through Whole Foods, which it purchased previous year for almost US$14 billion.

Amazon also has lightning deals that are quick-fire short-term discounts on certain items.

When asked if Prime Day is a means for Amazon to amass more paying members, Mr Low said that more users sign up to become Amazon Prime members on Prime Day than any other day.

Shopping deals on different categories will be available on Amazon Prime Day: appliances, back-to-school supplies, fashion, furniture, grocery, kitchen, smart home, and TVs.

Offers that began today include discounts for the Echo Show, Amazon brands, Prime video, DVD and Blue-Ray, Amazon Music, Twitch Prime, Kindle Unlimited, eBooks and Audible. This will give Prime members in India access to hundreds of top worldwide Prime Day deals for the first time. Members will also receive exclusive in-game loot for Warframe and PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS.

The company says Prime Day 2018 will be its biggest ever.

Eligible Prime members can get their first three months at more than 65% off for $4.95 a month. This year's Prime Day will last for 36 hours and more than one million deals will be available exclusively for Prime members around the world.
