San Antonio has been a common site for the Final Four in recent years, having previously hosted the event in 1998, 2004, 2008 and again last spring.

Add those sites to the following host cities, which were already in place and you're looking at at least another eight years - and probably much longer - of Final Fours in enormous venues.

The NCAA Men's Basketball Selection Committee also awarded Final Four events to Houston in 2023, Phoenix in 2024, and San Antonio in 2025.

According to a news release from San Antonio Sports, San Antonio was chosen over Detroit, Los Angeles, and North Texas to host the Final Four.

NCAA also announced which other cities were awarded the games through 2026.

"The footprint of downtown San Antonio is one of the most walkable and liveable in the United States, which is why San Antonio continues to be such an attractive location for the Final Four and events like this", he said. The city is also scheduled to host them in 2021.

"We felt 2018 was the greatest site visit we could give the NCAA and there's risk that things go wrong, but it went extremely well", said Russ Bookbinder, president/CEO of San Antonio Sports.

"We are thrilled for the cities of Houston, Phoenix, San Antonio and Indianapolis". It will seat 70,000 with expandable seating to 100,000 for mega events. From there, Johnson said, staffing for the event will likely come around 2022 while they keep in constant communication for the NCAA.

"We do not represent our bids as saying, 'This is where this shall occur, or that shall occur.' We present a pallet of the entire destination and allow, and encourage, the NCAA or the NFL or the College Football Playoff, or whomever to choose where they want to be".

Over the next four years, the event will be held in Minneapolis (2019), Atlanta (2020), Indianapolis (2021) and New Orleans (2022).

"I think the next three to five years are not in the cards, but probably after that at some time", Tellem said.

Indianapolis last hosted the Final Four in 2015 with a two-day attendance total of more than 143,000.
