Aretha Franklin "Gravely Ill" In Michigan

The Daily Mail reports legendary singer Aretha Franklin is gravely ill and surrounded by her family in Detroit.

The 76-year-old soul legend - who last performed at the Elton John Aids Foundation party in NY in November - is said to be at her home in Detroit, where her loved ones have gathered.

Aretha's last public appearance was in November 2017, when she performed at a benefit in NY to mark the 25th anniversary of Elton John's AIDS Foundation.

Though this has not been confirmed by Franklin's family or management, NBC reporter and close friend Harry Hairston seemed to confirm the news on Twitter.

It's unclear what may have led to Franklin's hospitalization, but her family is reportedly asking for "prayers and privacy". In March, she announced she would not be at New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival because her doctor recommended she take a break from touring.

Franklin had been planning on slowing down. I will be recording, but this will be my a year ago in concert. Her final public performance was in Philadelphia in August 2017. I will be recording, but this will be my past year in concert.

The "Queen of Soul" has battled multiple health issues over the years, including pancreatic cancer in 2011.
