Mohamed Salah's first-half strike moved Liverpool top of the Premier League table with a 1-0 victory over a stubborn Brighton side.

"We've had two very hard games and we've come out with a lot of credit".

Brighton claimed a stunning 3-2 win against Manchester United in their previous game but rarely threatened to follow that up with an upset at Anfield. The team rallied round because at that stage you can buckle under, but they didn't.

The Premier League then stops for the worldwide break so it looks like the earliest we'll see Lovren in action is Liverpool's trip to Tottenham on September 15th.

"During pre-season I played alongside a variety of different players and we blended really well".

"We conceded a very poor goal and you have to make sure you stick in the game", he said. "I'm very happy so far and hopefully it stays like this".

"When you concede a goal like that, the disappointment can spread through the team and that can show, but I don't think it showed".

Brighton went close to pulling themselves level in the 89th minute but goalkeeper Alisson Becker produced a good save to keep out Pascal Gross' header.

Jurgen Klopp's side were not at their fluid best, with their most risky moments coming before Salah struck. "But I thought we had chances of our own. We live on this planet so we knew before what the results have been and, if we win, probably we will be at least for tonight top", said Klopp. They made changes towards the end of the game to get that extra goal - but we finished really strong and we won't have many opportunities like that. Well, according to the Mirror, the Reds are now trialling a "specialist throw-ins coach" - no, seriously - to add even more goals to their game.

"At 1-0 down at half-time most people expected Liverpool to push on, but I thought we got stronger as the game went on".
