The True Detective Season 3 Trailer is Here

Ali plays Arkansas state police detective Wayne Hays in the third installment of the HBO series, which offers a new story and cast for each season.

The newly released trailer for "True Detective" Season 3 promises a haunting story with a brooding Mahershala Ali on the case.

While we don't know too much more about what's to come, Ali has assured that we'll be giving this show another shot come January. "I wasn't a fearful man", Hays says in the trailer. But also judging by this new footage, we're more confident now than ever that True Detective season 3 could be a hit. The minute-long teaser aired before the finale of the miniseries "Sharp Objects".

True Detective season 3 takes place in the heart of the Ozarks and sees a man obsessed with a crime, unlocking a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three different time periods.

Created by Nic Pizzolatto, who also serves as showrunner and writer, True Detective stars Mahershala Ali, Mamie Gummer, Stephen Dorff, Scoot McNairy, Carmen Ejogo, and Ray Fisher.

True Detective returns almost three-and-a-half years since the close of the critically savaged Season 2, which starred Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, Taylor Kitsch, Kelly Reilly and Vince Vaughn. It wasn't. Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams and Taylor Kitsch were all brought in and, their fault or not, they went down with the ship. Pizzolatto wrote every single episode, save for episode 4, which he co-wrote with David Milch.
