Apple to unveil new iPhones in coming weeks

According to Variety, Apple gave out invitations for the company's next iPhone event on Thursday morning.

Apple is also working on two new iPad Pro models with slimmer bezels and facial recognition along with a new low-priced MacBook laptop and a Mac mini desktop geared toward professionals, Bloomberg News has reported.

In typical enigmatic style, Apple offered scant clues to what it has in store for the presentation to take place in the Steve Jobs Theater at its spaceship campus in the Silicon Valley city of Cupertino. There's only an outline of what appears to be Apple Park as seen from above in copper (could it be hinting at a new copper-colored iPhone?) and "Gather round" below it. This year, Apple is expected to show off three models, based on several analyst reports: two featuring the premium OLED screen available on the iPhone X, one of which is expected to have the largest iPhone screen we've seen to date; and a cheaper iPhone model. This iPhone is also expected to only have a single rear camera. On the other hand, the 6.1-inch version will have an LCD panel and called iPhone 9. The new Apple Watches might also have improved heart rate detection.

While the overall design of Apple's new iPhones may be similar to the iPhone X, the inclusion of a larger model with a 6.5-inch screen will be welcome for fans of the Plus-sized iPhone models.

Apple's event is supposedly focused on the iPhone, but that doesn't mean Apple won't add some extras to its list of new product announcements. Like clockwork, the company will likely announce this year's new iPhones at the event as well as new Apple Watches and new iPads.

Reports suggest Apple wants to diversify the iPhone lineup by offering more sizes, colors, and price points.
