Aretha Franklin's body has been transported from a Detroit museum that hosted two days of public viewings of the Queen of Soul, the next step in a journey leading up to her funeral on Friday.

A funeral for Franklin will be held on Friday, according to Rolling Stone, and will be broadcast live, at least in part by WDIV-TV, WJBK-TV, and WXYZ-TV, all of them local Detroit TV stations.

Ariana Grande has been added to the list of singers who are scheduled to perform at the funeral, CNN reported.

And on Tuesday morning her golden casket was carried into the Charles H Wright Museum for African American History, where she was laid in repose surrounded by clouds of pink and purple roses.

"I met her a few times".

She said the singer looked lovely while lying in repose: "I don't know about red yesterday".

Swift is not the first superstar to pay tribute to Franklin in her hometown.

"The city of Detroit loved her, this was her home and I think they're really showing her the love that she deserved", she said. The atmosphere outside the museum was festive, her music blaring out of loudspeakers as people danced and volunteers handed out water.

"Aretha Franklin was not only the Queen of Soul but also a civil rights icon and a champion for all Americans" access to health care", said AARP CEO Jo Ann Jenkins.

She said the Queen of Soul was "a singer of the universe".

Swift continued, "She was one of those people, no matter what you said, no matter what glowing, positive thing you said about her, words could never ever describe how many things she did in her lifetime that made our world a better place".

Married and divorced twice, and the mother of four, she will be buried at Woodlawn Cemetery in Detroit, alongside her father and siblings.
