"We did a good 60 or 70 minutes [against Tottenham] and should have been winning 2-0 at half-time, but we weren't", the midfielder told Sky Sports.

"We've just got to start taking our chances and I am sure we will start winning more games".

City are undefeated in three games with seven points while United have lost two of their first three games, their worst start to a season since 1992-93.

"They're one of the biggest teams in the world, I'd say, and look at teams like Tottenham and Liverpool who aren't blessed with a lorry-load of money, and look at the players they've bought".

Despite champions City's own Premier League slip-up in a 1-1 draw at Wolves last time out, there is a contrasting air of serenity around Guardiola's camp as they prepare for the visit of Newcastle United on Saturday.

His strained relationship with manager Jose Mourinho is said to be a huge factor in his unhappiness in England, although he did recently say he will continue to fight for his teammates and fans.

"[United] remain a great team, a top team".

When asked if he still believes he is one of the great managers even if he fails to win a Premier League title at United, Mourinho then grilled journalists as to why they aren't asking the likes of Jurgen Klopp and Mauricio Pochettino the same question.

And when a reporter said Klopp - a two-time Bundesliga victor with Borussia Dortmund - does not hype his own achievements, Mourinho replied: "Because he never wins anything in global [tournaments] for example".

"When you lose 3-0 at home, a team like Manchester United, if you didn't watch the game, you would think it has been a disaster, but it hasn't been at all".

"Of course we are judged for the titles we get. I think they've got the right man and they should stick with him". Manchester United have got a fantastic manager already there.

"I repeat that two seasons ago we had a fantastic season by winning the Europa League, this season and last everybody thought Atletico Madrid was wonderful because they won the Europa League after being knocked out of the Champions League. He said he needed centre-halves, they didn't and now it's biting them on the backside".
