The Self Care rapper, real name Malcolm James McCormick, was found unresponsive at his San Fernando Valley, Calif., home, and was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities.

The moving portrait of the late rapper was shared about 24 hours after it was confirmed that he passed away at the age of 26. "He was a bright light in this world for his family, friends and fans". It would prompt the singer to disable comments on her photos on Instagram.

Ariana Grande took to Instagram Saturday in the wake of her ex-boyfriend Mac Miller's death a day earlier. Last year, a week after the couple split, Miller was arrested for a DUI hit-and-run.

Ariana and Mac performed together previous year at the One Love Manchester concert following the terrorist attack which took place after her concert at Manchester Arena.

Grande at the time wrote on social media that she had long tried to help Miller become sober but described their relationship as "toxic" and said, "I am not a babysitter or a mother and no woman should feel that they need to be".

He also contributed to an official remix of her song "Into You", while the two had also worked together on the song "My Way" years before getting together, which they performed at the One Love Manchester benefit concert last year. He told the crowd: "I swear, life is so f***ing fragile".

Posting an image of the pair on Instagram, Sheeran said Miller's untimely death was "so heartbreaking".

At the time, the No Tears Left to Cry hitmaker faced a backlash from his devotees, who appeared to blame Ariana for Mac's downfall as she had already moved on to a new relationship with comedian Pete Davidson, to whom she is now engaged. Chance the Rapper credited Miller with helping him early in his career and called him "one of the sweetest guys I ever knew".

"The music artist known as Mac Miller died today in his Studio City home", the LA County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner said in a statement on Friday.
