"Elon Musk's email to employees indicated Q3 would be 'the most wonderful quarter in our history, ' VIN registrations and the Bloomberg Model 3 tracker seem to imply production is on track, and insideEVs reported the company sold approximately 23k vehicles in August". At a time when Wall Street demands an increase in Model 3 builds, Tesla may not meet those expectations.

The stock price has dropped almost 12% since the start of the year.

Other analysts are skeptical that Tesla can accelerate or even maintain this production pace long enough to be profitable.

Shares of Tesla dropped more than 2% Tuesday in pre-market trading after Nomura Instinet - formerly one of the company's most bullish supporters - downgraded the stock, saying the company is "no longer investable". "I want to be clear that I believe strongly in Tesla, its mission, and its future prospects, and I have no disagreements with Tesla's leadership or its financial reporting", he added. Tesla on Tuesday said it manufactured 2,020 Model 3 vehicles in the last week of its first quarter - but missed its target of 2,500. Now it seems that in order to ramp up production of the popular Model 3, only a limited number of colors will be offered to customers.

But Left told Chatterley he thinks that at the end of the day, Tesla is going to need more cash and it will probably have to sell more stock to raise funding.

But Sacconaghi said the company remained on track to meet key auto manufacturing targets in the third quarter and predicted shares would return to their historic range as the aborted go-private campaign becomes a more distant memory.
