Tropical storm warnings were in effect for Barbados, St. Lucia, Dominca, Martinique and Guadeloupe, and tropical storm watches were in place for St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

"Kirk is moving toward the west-northwest near 18 miles per hour (30 km/h), and this motion is expected to continue over the next few days".

On the forecast track, the center of Kirk will move across the Lesser Antilles within the tropical storm warning area Thursday or Thursday evening.

Maximum sustained winds are near 60 miles per hour (95 km/h) with higher gusts.

A subsequent announcement from the Department of Emergency Management supported this initial statement but urged the public to exercise caution and continue to monitor the passage of Tropical Storm Kirk.

Tropical Storm Kirk is on a path to dump heavy rains that could bring risky flooding to the eastern Caribbean, forecasters said.

"Gusty winds and locally heavy rains are likely for the Windward and Leeward islands over the next couple of days", the report said.

Gilbert Miller, a senior forecaster with the Cayman Islands National Weather Service, said Wednesday afternoon that the storm is slated to impact Jamaica Monday and pass south of Cayman.

Tropical Storm Kirk has made a comeback.

The storm is expected to stay at around the same strength before weakening after it crosses over the Lower Antilles. The NHC is giving post-tropical cyclone Leslie a 50% chance of tropical or subtropical development in the next two days, and a 90% chance over the next five days. Tropical storm conditions are possible within the watch area by Thursday afternoon. These rains may produce life-threatening flash floods and mudslides.
