First lady Melania Trump brings "Be Best" campaign to Malawi school

Trump noted Melania was receiving an unbelievable amount of love from Africa, something that made him happy.

Trump also had tea with Ghana's first lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, at the presidential palace.

Her visit has included promoting the work of the US Agency for International Development, whose funding President Donald Trump has twice proposed slashing by almost a third.

The First Lady began her two-day trip to Nairobi at a national park near the Kenyan capital.

The convoy of the US First Lady however passed by without any incident and Mrs Trump might have seen the protests.

Melania Trump is on a four-nation tour of the African continent, and her most recent stop was to the country of Malawi, The Hill reports.

During Trump's tour, she is focusing on child welfare.

On Thursday, Melania toured a school in Malawi's capital of Lilongwe, and was on hand as the USA ambassador handed over 1.4 million books through a US -funded national reading program.

"I know she's moved by what the United States is doing in Malawi", US Ambassador Virginia Palmer told reporters. We think her visit will make a different on her husband decision of cutting Aid to African on reproduction health, HIV/AIDS among others. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has several active reading programs and retention-focused initiatives at schools in Malawi.

She is also expected to visit an orphanage and take in a children's performance at Nairobi National Theatre.

The event was to "highlight friendly US-Malawi relations" and the pair's "shared interest in helping children and, in particular, helping girls in school", according to the White House.

The White House is donating "Be Best"-themed school supplies, including totes, chalk for teachers, and soccer balls".
