The 27-year-old is now likely to miss City's next six matches, including a league clash against local rivals Manchester United on November 12. "Nobody likes to be injured".

Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne fears he's going to miss at least a month of action after suffering a knee injury in a 2-0 win against Fulham.

"He knows the desire we want for all young players", Guardiola added.

"Yesterday he came back in many, many things. It is what it is but fortunately it is not surgery and he will be back".

Southampton have failed to score in their last five Premier League games - they have never failed to score in six consecutive top-flight games. He is also expected to be ruled out of this Sunday's league game against Southampton, the Champions League tie at home to Shakhtar Donetsk three days later and matches against West Ham, Lyon and Bournemouth.

"This kind of injury is unlucky".

"We made an excellent performance without the ball in terms of how aggressive we were". I'm more concerned about muscular [injuries].

The midfielder will travel to Barcelona for treatment at Dr Ramon Cugat's specialist clinic.

Guardiola said he hoped the extended period on the sidelines will mean he is even stronger for the second half of the season.

Guardiola, though, is fully aware of the Spaniard's talent and says the club will do everything in their power to try and keep him past this season. But today less sad and tomorrow he will be stronger again.

"Hopefully we'll be in the knockout of the Champions League when he comes back, and stay up there in the Premier League".

"That will help us in the last part that he will be fresh in mind and body and help us reach our targets".
