Oprah Camapigns for Stacey Abrams, Encourages People to Vote

Oprah Winfrey has made a surprise appearance in Georgia, urging voters to make history by backing Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams in next week's election.

"For anybody here who has an ancestor who didn't have the right to vote, and you are choosing not to vote, wherever you are, in this state, in this country, you are dishonoring your family", she said. "Come on, Oprah! It's dehumanizing, it's completely baseless, it's totally cruel, and again I say, you're much better than that and you're much bigger than that".

The focus of her speech, however, wasn't Abrams. I don't want to run, ' she told the crowd.

"All of us may have been created equal, but if you're woke. you've got sense enough to know that everybody is not treated equally", she said. "You are disrespecting and disregarding their legacy, their suffering and their dreams, when you don't vote".

Oprah Winfrey has lent her star power to the Georgia Democrat aiming to become America's first black female governor in the midterm elections next week.

"I'd like to remind Stacey and Oprah and Will Ferrell, I'm kind of a big deal, too", Pence said, adding "a message for all Stacey Abrams' liberal friends: This ain't Hollywood". She faces Republican Brian Kemp, who was appearing with Vice President Mike Pence at a trio of events in the state Thursday.

More than 1.5 million Georgians already have cast ballots.

The pitches from Pence and Winfrey clearly fit Abrams' and Kemp's respective strategies. I don't want to run.

Shortly after her speech, Winfrey posted videos on Instagram of herself going door to door canvassing for Abrams. Pence said Abrams is being bankrolled by Hollywood liberals, referring to Winfrey and actor Will Ferrell. "Rather it lives and thrives in making sure that everybody is lifted by the community", Winfrey said.
