Amazon to Offer Free Shipping on Holiday Orders

Pair the shipping offer with some choice Thrifter deals and you'll have yourself a recipe for success this holiday season.

It intensifies the war for online customers this holiday, and comes after Target announced free two-day shipping for all customers for the holiday. One caveat: While Prime members still get free two-day shipping, the new offer requires customers who partake to settle for the five- to eight-day variety. Prime members will still get their stuff in 2 days. Offering up free shipping with no minimum could be an attempt to gain more Prime users, but it also may be a tactic to ensure that competitors such as Walmart are less likely to take away sales.

Amazon's latest perk will be available not just for its Prime members, but for all holiday shoppers this year.

Amazon's ultra-fast delivery service, Prime Now, will also offer special Black Friday deals to more than 30% of the United Kingdom population, providing an ideal selection of gifts, gadgets, fashion and Christmas treats which can be delivered in scheduled one- and two-hour delivery windows or within 60 minutes in selected postcodes.

A few weeks ago, Target announced that it's going to offer customers free 2-day shipping during the holiday season, including Black Friday and Cyber Monday, with absolutely no requirements.

"They're forcing Amazon to react", Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter said.

While Amazon's offer notably doesn't include two-day shipping, the e-commerce giant appears to be relying on its much larger assortment of goods to draw in customers. Sales were $43.7 billion in the year-earlier period.

This year the retail firm is introducing a new "AR View" feature that will allow customers to view products in more detail before they purchase them.
