Digne played with Salah at Roma during the the 2015-16 season when the Frenchman was on loan at the Serie A side from Paris Saint-Germain.

The Icelander has been proving his worth this season after struggling to justify the £45m price tag paid for him last term.

But Digne is not anxious about matching up against his old team-mate, instead relishing the type of challenge he was looking for when he moved to the Premier League from the La Liga champions over the summer.

"Analyse Everton and then tell me it will be an easy game", said the German.

"One or two years ago, Rooney came back, Sigurdsson came in and they said "they can not play together", because of a lack of speed". They were different games in the past, it was clear that Everton would be very passive, that is not the case now.

"He's a very good player with a lot of quality who can arrive well in the box, like I like". It would be in all leagues in Europe a European team, I am sure. We work together and it's not down to one player or two players. "Past is past, we can do nothing to change the past but we can work well in our present to make well the future".

At Anfield the stats are even uglier, as Everton have not managed a win in 19 years.

But the change that Marco Silva has brought to the Goodison outfit has been impressive in such a relatively short period.

"One or two years ago (Wayne) Rooney came back, (Gylfi) Sigurdsson came, they said they could not play because of lack of speed, but everything is there". That was a good result because we backed it up by winning the next game against Cardiff.

"Liverpool play well now, but we play well too".

"It could be very good for us. I think this season we are going to do something".

Liverpool resume their Premier League campaign after disappointment in Paris with a game against city rivals Everton in the season's first Merseyside derby. "We have to prove it", he said. We played well, we drew - it was a good result because Chelsea were unbeaten.

A good result for us could boost our confidence to a high, high level. When I was asked, I told the truth.

"He is understanding better now what I want, the moves he has to do, what positions and spaces on the pitch he has to receive the ball", Silva said.
