Andre Ward branded the 115-111 scorecard in Wilder's favour as "terrible" but was not completely surprised by the outcome.

Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury fought to a split draw Saturday night, with Wilder retaining his WBC heavyweight title after knocking down his British challenger twice.

During the twelfth and final round between long-out-of-the-game Tyson Fury and now undefeated Deontay Wilder, Fury was dealt a vicious combination of blows, culminating in a hook that initially seemed to knock him out cold.

"I would love for it to be my next fight", Wilder said of the rematch.

"I should have won the fight but I'm not going to complain". We poured our hearts out. I didn't sit still.

"If it's a great fight and fans want to see the rematch then why not?"

Both fighters are expected to meet again in a rematch, with Fury determined to prove himself as the rightful victor in a second fight.

Wilder failed to win for the first time since his semifinal bout at the Beijing Olympics, and he failed to knock out his opponent for only the second time in 41 career bouts.

The showdown between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury had no victor as one judge said Fury won, one said Wilder, and the third ruled it a draw.

"It is no secret I have been trying to fight Joshua". Early on Wilder just missed with some big punches but as the rounds progressed Wilder started lunging more and missing by wider margins.

"The Gypsy King" has been through a lot since defeating Wladimir Klitschko in November of 2015, as he explained to Joe Rogan in a recent interview.

Classy combinations drew cheers from his supporters as Wilder failed to rise to the occasion, often missing the target horribly as he tried to land a big punch. It was a great fight, so let's do it again. Wilder and Fury are set to fight on December 1 at Staples Center in Los Angeles. Each will make adjustments based on their review of the video, but what this fight showed is two evenly matched men at the top of their games.
