Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez hints at Gennady Golovkin trilogy after beating Rocky Fielding

Liverpudlian super middleweight Rocky Fielding rose to the challenge of a bout with the formidable Saul "Canelo" Alvarez at Madison Square Garden with short notice and was given a brutal reality check by the Mexican there last night.

The 28-year-old Mexican wasted no time in giving his opponent a taste of what was to come, bruising Fielding's ribs with a huge body shot and sending him to the mat in the first round.

Most fighters dream of boxing at Madison Square Garden, but when Fielding was picked as the fall guy in the first part of what Alvarez calls "stage two" of his career, it would have been ambitious to think there could have been any other outcome.

Alvarez did it again with a right to the head and a left to the body late in the second round, and that brought down Fielding's hands enough to expose the head.

Saturday's win was far from the most impressive of Alvarez's career, considering the opponent; but it might have been one of the most significant as far as what it represented as he begins his new record-breaking contract and growing his brand outside of the arenas and regions that have helped him become one of boxing's biggest stars.

Here's the slow-motion replay. "I'll come again, I'll come back".

"I felt that it (his rivalry with Golovkin) ended on September 15 and I showed that I was best", Alvarez said.

On who he wants to fight next: "When I was first coming up, I made the mistake thinking when I was knocking everyone out that I can conquer the world".

DAZN will be live streaming the first undercard fight right through to the main event this evening.

"The better man won", Fielding said. In total, Alvarez landed 35 body shots on a wounded Brit.

After the fight Alvarez noted how the body shots were something he and his team worked on heavily in camp for Rocky Fielding.

"Tonight was a great night for Canelo". When: Dec. 15 How to Watch: DAZN 6 p.m. ET Why You Should Care: Because a Tevin Farmer loss would lead to such savage Twitter harassment from Gervonta Davis that I cringe at the thought. Despite his insistence on fighting at 160 in 2019, a jump back up to super middleweight is not out of the question at the end of next year. I stood too long to try to mix it with him when I shouldn't have. "I want the best fights, and to make sure my name is held up high", Alvarez said. "But it was two great fights and if the people want it, we can make it". I'm still fresh. I'm just looking forward to cementing my legacy for the long run.
