The White House said Trump himself sprang for what he pronounced to be "great American food" for the visiting Clemson Tigers, winners of the USA college football championship.

The comments drew a laugh from the attendees as Trump listed the establishments - "all American companies" - whence the food came, including Burger King, Wendy's and McDonald's. "300 hamburgers, many, many french fries - all of our favorite foods". This is about showing them how a proper celebration looks in adulthood.

His tweet reads: "Great being with the National Champion Clemson Tigers last night at the White House".

"It was awesome. We had McDonald's and everything".

"Overall opinion on the wall is little changed from past year, but these views have never been more sharply divided along partisan lines", a press release summarizing the poll said.

An impressive - and highly unusual for the White House - smorgasbord greeted the players in the East Room.

Trump told players who dined at the White House that he did not want to postpone the event until after the shutdown - which is already the longest in history - has ended.

"I mean you're not just gonna NOT eat the Big Macs stacked in a pile right?"

"I've been waiting all weekend", Trump said on Twitter.

"We're talking about border security", Trump said.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Wednesday asked President Donald Trump to delay his scheduled January 29 State of the Union address until the resolution of the government shutdown, now in its 26th day.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters that the economy remained strong.

The New York Democrat insisted Monday that the only reason for the shutdown was that Trump had changed his mind about signing spending bills that the Senate had passed a year ago Trump backed off any signings in late December after some House conservatives urged Trump to insist on securing money for his promised border wall.
