If you thought the incredibly low-scoring game of sport taking place during Super Bowl 53 was a bit of a snooze-fest, then you might have hoped the halftime show would save you.

One viewer called Maroon 5 "bloody terrible".

It was supposed to be the exclamation point to Maroon 5's performance, but that came earlier in their set when Levine was joined by a drumline and local gospel choir on stage for the band's latest hit Girls Like You.

"They really had the nerve to show us a spongebob clip and NOT play sweet victory, and I've never been more ruffled", said another.

It was Maroon 5 who commanded the halftime stage this year, along with appearances from Travis Scott and rapper Big Boi.

Meanwhile, Atlanta's own Big Boi donned a giant fur coat as he rolled up in a vehicle and quickly spit out OutKast's classic "The Way You Move".

But rumoured surprise guest Christina Aguilera was a no-show, despite Maroon 5 finishing with their duet Moves Like Jagger. Check out Twitter's top reactions to the Super Bowl Halftime performance below.

Another viewer joked that she would turn her chair around for singer Adam Levine, referencing his job as The Voice coach.
