The small plane crashed into the Yorba Linda neighborhood residence Sunday afternoon killing the pilot and four other people inside the home, the Orange County Sheriff's Department said in a tweet late Sunday.

The twin-engine plane came apart and caught fire mid-flight, witnesses told local media, before crashing in Yorba Linda, a suburb of Los Angeles.

The Cessna 414A had just departed the Fullerton Municipal Airport when the incident happened under unknown circumstances, Allen Kenitzer of the Federal Aviation Administration told KTLA.

The Cessna 414A was said to have taken off from a nearby municipal airport shortly before the crash. However, the OFCA later clarified that only one structure was involved.

Authorities did not reveal the identifies of the two people who died or of the two that were injured.

He said the deceased occupants of the home were two males and two females.

He didn't know whether the people killed were on board the plane or on the ground.

He did not immediately have information on the number of people in the plane.

Video posted on Twitter showed panicked residents running to the house as it became engulfed in flames and dark smoke.

Aerial footage taken from news helicopters show plane parts, including side panels and a propeller, scattered on rooftops and driveways near the burned house.
