Cleveland Cavaliers make three-way trade with Houston, Sacramento

The deal capped a busy day for Sacramento, which reportedly shipped guard Iman Shumpert to the Houston Rockets earlier in the evening as part of a three-way deal. In Sacramento, he averaged 8.9 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.2 assists.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski was first to the news, reporting that the Cavaliers will get Marquese Chriss, Brandon Knight, and a protected first-rounder from Houston. The Cavaliers acquired these two players in Sunday's trade with Portland that sent Rodney Hood to the Trail Blazers.

In return for Sacramento's starting small forward, the team received shooting guard Alec Burks from the Cavs, along with a second-round selection.

The win saw Houston improve to 32-22, leaving them in 5th spot in the Western Conference playoff race.

As The Athletic's Jason Lloyd wrote before the deadline, a Burks trade wasn't going to be popular in the Cavaliers locker room, as many of his teammates hoped he'd remain in Cleveland long term.

Rockets star James Harden is also excited to have Shumpert on the team because of his ability to play all over the court. He's scrappy. He gets after it. "He is playing very, very well this season, so once he gets here, get a couple of practices in and let's go". "I like to think that he had the chemistry [on] point, him and JJ [Justin Jackson]. Even in the building, the energy was weird".
