The contest between these two teams at Duke was tainted when Blue Devils star Zion Williamson had his shoe explode in the first minute, leading to a sprained knee and an 88-72 UNC win.

Williamson's absence, coupled with a rough game from No. 3 option Reddish - who missed his first six shots and was called for charging three times - left Barrett as essentially a one-man show for Duke.

Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski, the former US Olympic gold medal coach, said Thursday the freshman had given "a really good workout" but had suggested that it was unlikely Williamson would suit up despite a full week of workouts.

Krzyzewski didn't rule out Williamson returning for Saturday night's regular-season finale at No. 3 North Carolina.

As for the long-term impact of these past few games, Krzyzewski said he wasn't concerned about Duke's tournament seeding, noting that the Blue Devils have played Virginia twice and will have done the same with North Carolina by week's end.

"He's getting more confidence", Krzyzewski said.

Will Zion ever play again at Duke?

The spread seems a little too wide and I think the Blue Devils will stay within the number if not win outright. The Blue Devils' starting center, Marques Bolden, had to be helped off the court and was taken to the locker room after suffering an apparent knee injury.

And while the loss at home to UNC came against a team with its own national title aspirations and the road loss to the Hokies came against a ranked ACC opponent, Duke's struggles against a bad Wake Forest team couldn't come at a worse time as tournament play approaches. He returned to the bench but didn't return to the game. North Carolina shot 32-of-76 from the floor, 7-of-22 from 3-point range plus 8-of-13 at the free throw line.

Wake Forest: Plays host to No. 14 Florida State on Saturday.

Barrett, who finished the win with 28 points, while playing all 40 minutes, broke the school's freshman scoring record, passing Marvin Bagley III, now having totaled 698 points on the season.

"He's so team-oriented", Krzyzewski said.

"It's not the greatest feeling losing to them", Duke freshman point guard Tre Jones said.
