Odell Beckham Jr. Browns Trade: Is Cleveland Frontrunner to Land WR?

NY is sending its star receiver to Cleveland for first- and third-round draft picks in April and safety Jabrill Peppers in the second blockbuster trade in four days.

The trade is the second major one involving a star wide receiver in four days as the Pittsburgh Steelers recently sent Antonio Brown to the Oakland Raiders.

WOW! Just when it looked like Le'Veon Bell would dominate the National Football League headlines today, the New York Giants and Cleveland Browns go out and pull off a blockbuster trade for the ages. Despite having an emerging career with the Browns, those with dual loyalties struggled to get behind the enigmatic athlete that they once loathed.

In training camp last August, Landry told cleveland.com that his good buddy Beckham would like to join him in Cleveland. That was after coming to an agreement on a four-year deal worth up to $54 million with Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker and impending free agent Kwon Alexander. The 23-year-old Paramus Catholic High School (N.J.) product had 79 tackles, one interception, three fumble recoveries and a sack last season.

The move to extend Beckham last summer essentially equates to paying him more than $21 million for a single season, plus eating a $16 million dead cap charge.

It's 2019, and the Cleveland Browns are going to be legitimate contenders in the NFL. With B.J. Hill, Dalvin Tomlinson, and RJ McIntosh still young and inexperienced, the pass-rush seems to be the weakest point on the team. But Beckham was a player loved in the locker room and with an unquestioned work ethic. "S*#% just got REAL!"

The Giants own the No. 6 and No. 17 overall picks in the 2019 draft as a result of the trade.

The Packers did this previous year too, by the way, spending big on Jimmy Graham and Muhammad Wilkerson.

Odell Beckham Jr.is headed to Cleveland.

"Landry said he's talked to Odell Beckham Jr. and that he 'definitely would be" up for playing for the Browns. It was buzzing around Indy that the 49ers want him though. In 2017 Beckham caught nine passes for 79 yards and two touchdowns in his one appearance against the Eagles.

Those results support a roster overhaul, and the last decade is proof that you don't need an elite No. 1 receiver to win a Super Bowl.
